How to Remove and Replace Refrigerator Door Shelf End Caps

Most refrigerators have at least one or two retainer bars for keeping condiments and other items secured on the refrigerator door's inner shelves. These bars can be set into the housing, but usually they're held in place with plastic end caps. If one of the door shelf end caps on your refrigerator has broken, here's how to go about replacing it.

Replacing a refrigerator door shelf end cap

Replacing a broken refrigerator door shelf end cap is an easy job. You might find the most difficult part of the process to be finding a replacement end cap.

Some manufacturers or retailers will want to sell you a new retainer bar with a matching pair of end caps. To save yourself time and money, take a look at the broken door shelf end cap. There should be a part number printed or stamped on its inner surface. Give your refrigerator company a call and see if they will replace it or sell you the individual part. If not, the Internet is always useful for buying household odds and "ends."

Refrigerator door shelf end caps are usually snap-on pieces that connect to the door shelf retainer bar/trim and the refrigerator door liner. Less common are end caps that attach to the retainer bar using adhesive strips. In those cases you'll spot a paper backing on the end cap. Peel it off and attach it to the inside of the end of the refrigerator's retainer bar.
